In
late May 2002 a friend of mine from the Chameleon
Journals wrote to tell me about a reptile show held in Edmonton on the
previous weekend. She knew that I was looking for a bright colorful
Panther chameleon and she had seen some nice "rainbow" chameleons.
I wasn't really familiar with the "Rainbow" Panther, although I'd heard the term. I wrote to a few experts and here's the reply I got back:
"Some people call certain Ambanja, Sambavas and Diego Suarez Panthers Rainbow because of the high degree of color changes they go through. There are those that call hybrids rainbows (better than calling them mutts) or any Panther who's origins are uncertain are sometimes called rainbows. It would be best to think of Rainbow Panthers as a very colorful Panther and not to relate it to any specific locality. Best regards. Jim Nozaki AMAZING BLUE REPTILES"
Ok, so there really is no such thing as a Rainbow Chameleon but a nice colorful Panther is all I really wanted so off to Edmonton. May 31, 2002 I had an addition to my family. Meet my babies. I'll try and update this page frequently so you can see the little guys grow. And yes, the two in the left are the same as the two in the far right. They really do change colors that much - even as babies.

Update: June 24, 2002
The Babies are now about 10 weeks old and they are sure doing well! The female, my daughter has named Crystal, is doing the best. She has more than doubled her size. She sheds at least once or twice a week. It's amazing to watch them grow. Here's Crystal shedding...
How does the Incredible Hulk keep his pants on when he does this?
Update July 6,. 2002
It's simply amazing to see them grow. The picture on the left shows Crystal who's growing so quickly. To the right you can see Tiger, one of the male babies.
