Chris died on December 20, 2002 at 5pm. His death was caused by a hemipenal prolapse suffered as a result of mating with Tiger. If you wish to see more details (and be prepared for some disturbing pictures) click here.
He was an amazing animal who will be deeply missed.

Crystal is a beautiful Male Rainbow Panther Chameleon. Picture on the left was taken Sept. 1, 2002. The picture on the right was taken Sept. 23, 2002. At this age the changes in colors and even features (brow ridge, etc) can be remarkable from week to week.

So what's a "Rainbow" chameleon? I asked Jim Noziak and here's his reply: "Some people call certain Ambanja, Sambavas and Diego Suarez Panthers Rainbow because of the high degree of color changes they go through. There are those that call hybrids rainbows (better than calling them mutts) or any Panther who's origins are uncertain are sometimes called rainbows. It would be best to think of Rainbow Panthers as a very colorful Panther and not to relate it to any specific locality. Best regards. Jim Nozaki AMAZING BLUE REPTILES"
Crystal joined our family at the end of May 2002. The breeder we got Crystal from wasn't exactly sure what kind of Chameleon's he had. To me the male looked like a Diego Suarez and the female looked like a red phase Ambanja. He sold me three baby Chameleons - two baby boys and a girl. Except the boys turned out to be girls and the girl turned out to be male. But by this time Crystal had "her" name and it's just too late to change things now.
Crystal is really one of my favorite Chameleons. Not only does he look great but he eats and drinks well and has a nice disposition.
Crystal is just peeking out in the middle.
