This shot was taken with great care. I was quite some distance away and used an 80x zoom to avoid being noticed. Taking pictures of a Chameleon digging her tunnel is usually a very bad idea. If she gets the feeling that she's being watched she can stop digging. In some cases she will retain her eggs and die "egg bound".
Sam started digging in her Pothos plant early in the day. That plant is too small for her to get a good nest so I quickly moved her to a proper laying bucket. After a brief period she adjusted to the new surroundings and dug a very deep and impressive nest.
After working all day at digging, laying then covering her nest she was exhausted and received some well needed rest and water.
In the end, I recovered 17 small eggs from her nest. Although Sam had mated once with Theo these eggs are so small that they are probably infertile. I should know shortly as infertile eggs will usually go rotten quickly. You can make out a few of the eggs sitting in vermiculite below.
