We
moved back to Regina from the lake on the September 2002 long weekend. Thor and
Crystal ended up in the big screen cage with a divider down the middle. I
thought Cleo and Tiger would be able to use a Reptarium in the back yard until
their new cages were ready but the weather turned cold. I quickly ordered
a pair of new cages from www.cages.net but
poor Cleo and Tiger ended up in an Aquarium for a while.
Next came the problem of finding room for two 4'x3'x2' cages. The only available space was my closet... so began the daunting task of removing 10 years of accumulated computer junk. After cleaning one shelf I had so much garbage waiting in the hall it was time for a trip to the dump. WHAT a mess!

Finally the new cages from www.cages.net arrive. My wife and I assembled both cages in just over an hour.

To keep your Chameleon healthy you need to give him water. LOTS and LOTS of water. You don't want all that water to end up ruining your new hard wood floors. We took time to prepare the inside of the closet with a nice tropical background - a shower curtain! Some Rubber Maid containers with some shelving material from Home Depot fit perfectly inside to add support to the bottom of the cage. Thin strips of wood at the side and front of the cage give it a very slight tilt to assist drainage. Finally, I drilled a drain hole and used some Silicone sealant to waterproof the hole.

Initially I had everything drain into a bucket. |
The project is coming along well. We are heading to a reptile show this weekend to pick up some good quality lights for basking and UV. A bit of work to hide the electrical cords, put everything on timers, get the foggers hooked up, then neaten up the job and we will be done.

Still a bit messy but getting there! |
First thing Crystal did - GROW to fill the cage! |

The addition of some nice Reptisun Lights, some Mist Makers for humidity and a few live Pothos plants finished the project.
After the project was finished, I decided the plumbing and drainage were just not good enough. I brought in a plumber and finished off the project properly. Check out the details here.
