Panther Babies

Home Up

From conception to babies - roughly 1 very very long year of waiting.

The babies are now 5 months old and looking good.  Most have been sold but I kept back a few of the best for possible breeding.  Sadly, I can't keep them all - much as I want to, I just don't have the space.  If you want an awesome animal, now's the time.  Check down near the bottom of this page to see how some of the babies are turning out.  If you would like to own one of these beautiful babies, live in Canada, and are prepared to give them a good home, please send me an E-Mail:  rbhamilton@gmail.com  [Sorry... all sold out now]

Tiger laid her first clutch on December 2, 2002 but it wasn't until October 16, 2003 that the first babies were born.  If we include 6 weeks of gestation that makes it just about a year from conception to babies.  What a long wait!!  Still, it's all worth it.  From the 16th through the 18th we had 23 little babies hatch out.  There are still 3 eggs waiting to hatch.

Check out the Mom - Tiger   and the Dad - Chris (Chris started his life as Crystal before we knew his sex).  Both were amazing animals and the babies are going to be spectacular!

The process is really amazing.  First the end of the egg splits open and some liquid spills out.  Next a little head pokes out through the hole.  The baby will remain in that position for up to a full day.  Next, the baby wiggles out of his egg.  At this point he may get up and start running around or he may just lay there not even breathing for several hours.  Don't poke at him or slap him - just let nature take it's course.  Eventually, if he's healthy, he will get up and start to explore his new world.

Some babies retain some yolk sack - don't worry, that's normal.  The baby will use a bit of the yolk sack for nutrition while he gets his land legs but eventually the yolk sack will dry up and fall off like a human baby's umbilical cord.
